We are delighted to share that CuteCircuit’s SoundShirt has won the 2025 Lumen Prize for Fashion & Design.
The award was presented at Kunstsilo in Kristiansand, Norway, on 8 November, bringing us together with an international community of artists working across art and technology. Receiving this recognition for a work that brings people together through touch was a special moment for us.
A work of art you can wear
SoundShirt transforms sound into tactile sensations across the body. Music and the atmosphere of a live performance or football match become something the wearer can feel, creating a shared experience for deaf and hearing audiences.
Designed by Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz, the garment brings textiles, interaction design and haptics together. It explores how clothing can carry emotion and connect us to the people and experiences around us.
The Fashion & Design Award recognises that relationship between the garment and the experience it makes possible. Accessibility is part of how the work is conceived, alongside its form, movement and tactile language.
Celebrating with the Lumen community
The weekend at Kunstsilo included installations and conversations about art, technology and authorship. Meeting the other artists and curators, and sharing the ideas behind our work, made the celebration extend well beyond the ceremony.
Thank you to the Lumen Prize jury, the Lumen team and Kunstsilo for welcoming us, and congratulations to our fellow winners and finalists. We are proud to be part of this community.
