SoundShirt comes to Lyric Opera of Chicago

On 1 October 2023, Lyric Opera of Chicago launched its SoundShirt pilot at a performance of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman.

Developed in partnership with the City of Chicago’s Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, the programme followed testing at Lyric during the 2022/23 season. SoundShirt translates live music into tactile sensations, offering deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members another way to experience the performance.

The garment was designed and produced by CuteCircuit. Designed by Francesca Rosella and Ryan Genz.
